I received your letter informing me that you have selected the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes to receive the "Mother Teresa Award" this year. I understand that the vocation of this particular award is to promote and encourage the creation of beauty in our world, and I feel very honoured that you have chosen the Sanctuary at Lourdes as one of the awards' first recipients.
Mother Teresa is very special to us here in Lourdes! In the underground basilica of St. Pius X there are large portraits of saints and blessed from many different countries and among them is Mother Teresa of Calcutta with a candle in her hand. Hers is undoubtedly one of the most beloved of the portraits in the basilica.
Once again, thank you for considering our work here at the Sanctuary worthy of the Mother Teresa Award. Be assured of our prayers for your ministry and may we remain united in prayer at the foot of the grotto of Massabielle.
