Friar Robert Lentz, O.F.M., is a Byzantine iconographer trained in the school of Photios Kontoglou. His work is published and distributed in many countries. His original icons can be found throughout North America and in Europe and the Middle East. He painted 14 life-size images for the reredos behind the main altar in St. Francis Cathedral in Santa Fe, New Mexico from 1987-1989. His icons have been used as book covers and as illustrations in many different publications. He is best known for his adaptation of the traditional Byzantine style depicting contemporary figures of holiness such as Dorothy Day and Oscar Romero. He lives and works at San Diego Mission in Jemez Pueblo, New Mexico.
